Growing up hearing all the stories about why they made Jack-o-Lanterns in the first place. Putting those spooky thoughts of a creature lurking about into a childs head, probably wasnt the best idea. But Vale always swore she would see something peaking around the houses that didnt put a jack-o-lantern out on their front steps. Maybe it was just the paranoia playing tricks on her brain, she did tend to takes things a little too seriously. But she never did take a chance.

Many a times, buying out the last of the shop pumpkins and organizing a little carving event with the village. That way everyone takes home a jack-o-lantern they made and/or dropping the ones left behind at homes that didnt have any. Yes, the entire town thought she was a little crazy this time of the year but she was fine with that, everyone seemed to accept it and humor her. Which worked perfectly for her. Making sure every house had one the day before and making sure they all got lite before the sun set. She would go around a third time the day after to collect them all to take out into the woods for the wild life to eat.

Many of those moments she would get such an uncomfortable feeling, that would just follow her around all day. Almost like eyes watching her constantly. She would never let that stop her and slow her down. Over the years she learned to just ignore it. Even with the times of seeing something out of the corner of her eye or watching something move when it shouldnt have. Vale always make sure to never focus on what could be the glow of eyes peaking around houses, trees, whatever something could hide behind. The less she acknowledge it, the more she could focus on other things. The one memorable time of seeing a a long gnarled hand slip around the side of a building as she walked by. The moment of mental energy it took her to not immediately going looking. She would never feed into this creature. If it was something that fed on the fear it cause or even like gods of old when you believed in it, it would be able to fed just off of that.

Stingy Jack was never going to make it around their village. Whether he was actually looking for some place to rest or actually looking for someone else to take over his curse. She would make sure there was always going to be a line of defence against him.
