The alcove hums with quiet mist, droplets tracing the worn runes as if remembering the story themselves. Before the tablet stands a kiamara weathered by time: cracked fur cloaked in moss, eyes dim but never closing. His gaze never strays from the statue before him: a hero in frozen grace, marble veins faintly threaded with the shimmer of a soul once aflame.

Long ago, that statue had moved, had spoken, had laughed. Together, they had stood against the tide of war, stone and flesh, bound by vow and sorrow. When the final blow came, his lover offered everything, heart and spirit poured into the guardian’s core.

Now, the world has forgotten their names. Only the waterfall remembers, its endless song echoing his vigil. And so he waits through seasons, through centuries guarding the one who once guarded all, hoping the stone will stir again, just once, to call his name.

Even in a world full of living fairytales, not all Kia are treated fairly. Those that are less sightly, or seen as a bit more monstrous are often treated as a threat with no prior confirmation. Balfour has made it his sole mission to protect those very kias, or at least those that would need his aid. There are rumors between those who live in the darker parts of the world that he works with one of the more fearsome members of the dark, Fenrir, to chase of threats.

Balfour uses his slender build to move quietly in she shadows, his eyes in any he might see as a threat. He is careful and watchful,so much so that he is rarely seen. Some say if you spot him, you’re already to late. No matter what, there are very few who have ended up on the other end of his claws and lived to tell the tale. (156)

This kia sits atop a rock in the centre of a ring of mossy stones. It is calm, and peaceful. Between the stones lie a pool. Within the pool, swim the most beautiful collection of fish you have ever seen.

Mottled in bright blues, whites and oranges, they swim and swirl around one another in the water, calm and peaceful as they do, drawing circles with the ripples of their tails.

He noticed you, and looks up, instantly on guard, but upon seeing you mean no harm, he relaxes slightly. He beckons you closer to observe the fish in more close proximity.

“I am their guardian, I make sure no harm befalls them.” He tells you with a sage nod.

He might be frail and weak looking, his eyes may be sunken and tired but you believe him.
