Hearthfire Festival Grounds

As you approach the festival grounds, you look on the bright side. No one had been here yet besides Gus, so at least there's no possibility that anyone got hurt during the rift opening.. but now all that hard work is just gone.
Why don't you go talk to the new arrival and see what their deal is.. or you can talk to Serah, who seems to still be overseeing trick-or-treating in town to try and keep the Hearthfire spirit alive this year.

As you walk away from where the Hearthfire Festival was supposed to be, you pass by Gus and his shop as you head to town. You can't help but wonder what the little robot witnessed when the rift opened or why he and his shop managed to be spared the same fate as the rest of the stalls. As you ponder the possibilities and their implications, you're pulled from your thoughts by a familiar voice calling out to you.

"Hey Riftie!"

Serah waves at you from the porch of a nearby homestead, grinning with a candy-filled basket in hand. She's all dressed up and clearly still excited to celebrate Hearthfire regardless of the situation regarding the rift. As you approach, she holds out an empty basket to you as she speaks.

"Here ya go. I went around and spread the word that the festival was cancelled for everyone's safety. But, while the Manahunter's guild works on investigating the rift residue and the area, myself and a handful of other locals have decided to continue the celebrations. We are doing a tradition shared by a different riftie. Trick-or-treat! You dress up in cool costumes and go around to your friend's homes and knock on their door to get goodies. Sounds cool, right? Just don't stop at the same house twice!"

You spot two figures bickering in the aftermath of the rift. The shorter of the two is.. strange. You definitely don't recognize the Kiamara that's standing there, looking both amused and annoyed by the taller figure that's fussing him. The other figure, you do know. You've seen them around often since you've arrived in Solaria and have crossed paths frequently. They're always flitting about from guild to guild and have always been active in the smooth sailing for major holidays.

While you can't make out any words quite yet, you can tell they are clearly upset with the shorter figure over something. They point down at him as they fuss, clearly getting more and more heated. Your step falters as the short figure waves a hand dismissively and, with a flash of pale light, the familiar Solarian is gone.

Well...

Not gone. They've been turned into a small, furry critter.

There's a tense silence that fills the air before the critter screeches and starts thumping at the ground in frustration. You rush over, hoping to do something to help them. The critter looks up at you with wide, desparate eyes in a panic. However, the short Kiamara seems completely unbothered by the entire situation.

How does your character try to help the critter?

  • Do they try to convince the short figure to turn the critter back to their original form?
  • Maybe they test out a few spells to try and turn them back themself?
  • Perhaps they go find someone more knowledgable in powers?
  • Or maybe, they end up just picking up the critter and taking care of them in hopes they turn back on their own?

Standard Art Requirements:
Must at least be a sketchy, flat-coloured full body of your character with a background (does not need to be defined). Must show how they try to help the transformed Solarian. This can be through a thought bubble (ie a potion they made).

Standard Writing Requirements:
Must be at least 600 words in length. Must mention the character's name. Must mention how they react to the Solarian being transformed by the stranger and how they plan to help them return to normal.

After witnessing the short Kiamara turn the familiar Solarian into a critter and doing your best to assist them in returning to their usual form, you return to the rift site where the festival was supposed to take place. Determined to figure out what this stranger's deal was, you head over towards where you last saw them. You find the short figure kneeling down, taking interest in the local flora. They stand when you approach, giving you a warm smile that you don't fully trust after what you saw them do earlier.

"Greetings, gentlebeing. I am Reginald Nicholas Greenwhich. Though, I suppose you may call me Reggie. You seem.. troubled? Is something bothering you, gentlebeing?"

Reggie's gaze seems to look through you as he stares at you for a long moment. He cuts you off before you can respond, turning to gaze at the surrounding area and nearly knocking into you with his wings.

"This land feels.. lost. Things are out of balance here, are they not? Hm.. I could help, I suppose. But is it worth my time?"

Reggie turns to look back at you once more, his brow raised. The grin that he gives you is one you're not sure you should trust either as this figure is still mostly unknown.

How does your character convince Reggie to stay OR leave Solaria

  • Do they try to convince him to stay by showing him local Manahunter research?
  • Maybe they try to tell him about the rifts in hopes that he'll take one and leave Solaria?
  • Perhaps they introduce him to someone else they find annoying in hopes he'll leave on his own?
  • Or maybe, they offer to trade him snacks in exchange for him staying in Solaria to help with the rifts?

Art Requirements:
Must be at least a sketched, flat-coloured halfbody. Must show how they try to convince Reggie to stay or leave Solaria. This can be through a thought bubble (ie a pile of snacks to convince him to stay).

Writing Requirements:
Must be at least 400 words in length. Must mention the character's name. Must mention how they feel about Reggie and how they try to convince him to stay or leave Solaria.
