For the longest time, this kia didn't believe in ghosts. They were always spiritual, sure! One must be a particular flavour of con artist to not believe in any of this and be a tarot reader, but ghosts in particular had never crossed their path, despite them looking out for them, so they did not believe in them.

Then one of the older veterans of their circus troupe passed away. Due to seniority, this kia was allowed to move into the trailer that used to be his. It was rather sizeable and very nice, and they found it nice to have this connection.

It started small. If they had lost something, after about five minutes of looking for it, they spotted it placed gently upon a particular end table near the door. "Always keep your gubbins somewhere you can see em!" Bones, the kia who passed, had always said, and once this kia had noticed a pattern with what was happening they began to wonder. Could it be the spirit of their dear departed friend.

Then it got bigger, they came back to find the ingredients for dinner already laid out, or the trailer having been neatly tidied in their absence. Eventually small notes began to pop up. "You're a marvel! Keep it up!" Or "Your milk is expired, don't forget to get more!"

Finally, they had a dream- or perhaps it was simply a vision- where they saw it. The ghost of Bones, smiling warmly at them.

"You have got it from here kiddo..." The spectre said, before disappearing.

Perhaps there were other explanations for these things, but ultimately, this kia doesn't believe that, and when asked about ghosts will wholeheartedly say ghosts are real and they know for sure. They will tell the story, and even show off the small notes that they had kept.

Asking about one's beliefs is usually not a good subject, depending on what beliefs you're asking about.

Though, I suppose, ghosts are a subject that one can easily discuss as there are many student types, supposedly. Poltergeist, residual, or loop, ghosts.

Then you have the idea that some ghosts are sentient and know living beings are here with us, that we co exist with one another. Or that we try to get rid of the living from what was ours, but per the laws of the living is not.

No, actually. I don't think I do believe in ghosts. Next question.

Why are you looking at me like that? Hmm? Oh. My feet aren't touching the ground... you're right.

My answer remains.

Do I believe in ghosts? What an odd question. Do you mean like, morally? Can one really believe in every member of- oh. You don’t know do you? Oh no don’t worry about it, you don’t need to know. So do I believe in ghosts. Well don’t you find it hard not to believe in ghosts? Surely weirder things have happened. Rifts appear in the sky, dropping strangers from others worlds. I would think ghosts would have to exsit in at least one of those, no? Magic exists, there are worlds upon worlds, the options must be endless.

So yes I believe in ghost. What I wonder is what kinds of ghost are out there. Are a gosht and a spirit the same thing? A ghoul? Can one be both alive and a ghost somehow? What is a soul I wonder. Maybe we are all ghost, and some of us have been separated from our mortal forms.

What? Evil? Of course ghosts aren’t evil! At least not all of them. I an insulted- I mean I find the idea insulting! The depth of beings tat exists is far too complex to be grouped so easily. Now if you’ll excuse me I really most must be going.

Yuki was the type who needed to see things with her own two eyes, hold them in her grasp, or at least test them with a hard nudge before she believed a single word about them. So when the rest of the tribe sat around the dying embers of the campfire whispering about haunted ruins and spectral lights, Yuki usually just rolled her eyes and went back to grooming her tail.

She didn't believe in ghosts. Not even a little bit.

People who don't believe in the supernatural blame it on science or logic, but Yuki’s reason was a lot more personal—and, honestly, a little weird.

When she was just a child, she had strayed too far into the old pine forest near the edge of the territory, right as the sun was dipping below the horizon. The woods were notorious for being "haunted." Older Kiamaras swore that if you went in after dark, you’d hear the phantom cries of ancient spirits and see shadowy figures gliding through the trees.

Naturally, little Yuki got lost.

As the dark settled in, the forest transformed. A low, unnatural howling echoed through the trees. Dim, floating lights began to flicker between the trunks. Then came the sound—a eerie, hollow dragging noise right behind her. Yuki's heart pounded against her ribs. For five terrifying minutes, she was convinced she was about to be eaten by a ghost.

She clamped her eyes shut, pressed her back against a rock, and waited for the end.

When nothing bit her, she peeked open one eye.

The floating "ghost light" was just a swarm of glowing fungus growing on a rotten log bobbing in the breeze. The spooky, hollow dragging sound? A fat, annoyed porcupine pulling a dry branch through the brush. And that horrifying phantom howl turned out to be nothing more than wind blowing through a weirdly shaped hole in a dead trunk.

Yuki spent the next twenty minutes poking the glowing log and watching the porcupine waddle away. The fear vanished, replaced by a strange realization: the world was full of scary, unexplainable things, but every single one of them had a totally normal, slightly embarrassing explanation if you just looked close enough.

Ever since that night, Yuki made it her personal mission to ruin every good ghost story she came across.

When a cabin door mysteriously slammed shut in the middle of a calm night, everyone panicked—except Yuki, who trotted over, sniffed the floorboards, and proved it was just a draft coming through a loose foundation log. When strange glowing eyes appeared near the riverbank, she marched right up to them and found a pair of curious river otters reflecting the moonlight.

To Yuki, "ghosts" were just things people were too scared to double-check. The world was already weird, loud, and full of strange tricks light and wind could play on a tired brain. She didn't need invisible spirits to make life interesting—nature was doing a fine job being strange all on its own.

Kage was raised in a spiritual household. Not religious, spiritual. He wants to be quite clear about that. His parents raised him to believe in the world beyond the veil of their own reality. Most younglings in their neighborhood had learned to steer clear of his house early on, because of the scary witches that lived there. Well, the kids were half-right; witches did live there. But they weren’t scary, just misunderstood. Kage had grown up learning divination, how to read palms, tarot cards, bones, and runes. He learned which herbs were used in what spells, how to attract positivity, repel negativity, and to trust in the universe. But above all, he was taught that death was never the end of one’s life. There was just one problem with that theory: Kage had never once had a personal experience with ghosts. So it came as a surprise to his parents when he told them he was questioning the existence of spirits. Kage had sat them down and explained to them that since pretty much the beginning of their teachings, he had doubted whether or not he could communicate with the spirit world. After a bit of the shock wore off, his parents calmly told him how sometimes the magic skipped a generation. They stressed that nothing was wrong with him, it’s just something that happened occasionally in their family. After the three finished their conversation, Kage decided to go for a walk to help clear his head. He walked a few blocks, past the corner store, the library, and the local cemetery, before he turned around to go home. As he did, an older gentleman walked silently up to him, looking slightly distressed. He didn’t want to be rude, so when Kage saw him, he asked if everything was okay. “My wife…I can’t find her,” the kiamara said, a couple of tears forming in the corners of his eyes. There was something about this person that Kage felt he could trust. “What’s your wife’s name?” he asked. “I don’t remember,” the man said. “Okay, well, why don’t we go this way, and we can try to find her,” he tried to reassure the old man. They began to backtrack towards Kage’s home, and when they saw the cemetery, the man’s distress turned to happiness. A droma dressed in black was standing beside a headstone, flowers in one hand, and a tissue dabbing her eyes in the other. “Do you know her?” Kage asked, but the man had vanished from his side, only to reappear by the woman. Kage walked towards the pair, and realization hit him. The man looked at Kage again, and told him, “This is my wife, Gertie. Will you tell her I’m alright?” Kage nodded, and the man smiled and faded into a warm glow, before he disappeared for good. “Gertie?” Kage asked softly. “I have a message for you…” he began. From then on, it was safe to say, Kage was a true believer of ghosts.
